Let us revisit the topics of the week
Peter Principle:
You must have heard of an old adage “the cream rises to the top” and "the cream rises until it sours." This can also be related to Organisational Hierarchies where employees rise up through a firm's hierarchy through promotion until they reach a level of respective incompetence. This was explained in detail by Dr. Laurence J Peter a Canadian Professor
Parliamentary Committees:
According to a PRS Legislative Research, only 25% of the Bills introduced were referred to parliamentary committees in the 16th Lok Sabha, as compared to 71% and 60% in the 15th and 14th Lok Sabha respectively. This shows a clear warning of bypassing the parliamentary committees’ function of legislative deliberation. There is a need to re-emphasize the role of Parliamentary Committees in upholding democracy.
The Text of Arthashastra:
Kautilya’s Arthashashtra is about Artha which is livelihood and shastras which is science. Hence, Kautilya’s work deals with the science of livelihood in a multidisciplinary manner by focusing not just on economics but also politics, IR, and most importantly the welfare of society.
